With his presidency in big trouble amid deep economic and political problems at home, why is Barack Obama spending more than a week in Asia, sandwiching his trip to Australia between hosting APEC in Honolulu and participating East Asian Summit for the first time in Bali?The answer, according to the president himself, is to demonstrate that "the US is a Pacific power and we are here to stay." This won't do anything for Obama in the US.
